Historical Keyboard Instruments

A basic knowledge of historically informed performance practice is a prerequisite for admission to the Historical Keyboard Instruments elective course. During the course, existing basics of historical keyboard instrument performance are deepened and expanded, in repertoire extending to works from the 20th/21st centuries in which historical keyboard instruments are used.

A diverse selection of chamber music is also a key part of the course. Students have an extensive range of instruments to choose from, including clavichord, harpsichord, and historical fortepiano, each in different formats.

Harpsichord studies are offered as an elective course at the University of Music Karlsruhe as well as part of the Contemporary Music master's degree program, where it is integrated as a major subject.
