Philharmonic Director Louwrens Langevoort Becomes Honorary Professor at the Karlsruhe University of Music

Rector Prof. Hartmut Höll has awarded the artistic director of the Cologne Philharmonic Orchestra, Louwrens Langevoort, an honorary professorship. This is valid for the duration of his affiliation with the faculty of the Karlsruhe University of Music, starting in the upcoming winter semester 2021–2022. Langevoort will teach on topics such as event planning, marketing and the basics of related contract law.

"I am excited and very much looking forward to entering into a dialogue with the students, because they are not only our audience of today, but also the cultural managers and artists of tomorrow. I thank Hartmut Höll and the Karlsruhe University of Music for this appointment," Langevoort said. "To gain such an experienced artistic director and connoisseur of the international music scene as a lecturer for our university is a great enrichment for both sides," Hartmut Höll is convinced.

Louwrens Langevoort began his career as a cultural manager in 1981 at the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels. After holding positions at Philips Classics, the Salzburg Festival and the Leipzig Opera, he moved to the Cologne Opera as Artistic Operations Director. He then became artistic director and executive director of the National Reisopera of the Netherlands. In 2000, he took up his post as artistic director of the Hamburg State Opera. Since the 2005/2006 season, he has been artistic director of the Kölner Philharmonie, managing director of KölnMusik GmbH and overall artistic director of the festival ACHT BRÜCKEN | Musik für Köln. In December 2018, Louwrens Langevoort's contract as artistic director of the Kölner Philharmonie was extended for the third time, meaning that he will accompany and help shape Cologne's culture until the end of 2025.
