Cooperations: Diverse Networking
The Institute for Music Theater (IMT) networks nationally and internationally with select cultural institutions and opera houses. Karlsruhe, a cultural magnet that boasts the Center for Art and Media Technology (ZKM) and the University of Design (HfG), offers unique perspectives as a collaborative partner. The two neighboring institutions offer synergies for learning, working, developing, and researching together.
HfG students design stage and costume sketches for Kids@Opera children’s music theater productions at IMT as well as working with student opera singers and student directors at IMT.
Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna:
Cooperation in training for stage design under the direction of Professor Anna Viebrock.
Baden State Theater Karlsruhe:
The State Theater Opera Studio is reserved exclusively for IMT students. In the Baden State Theater Karlsruhe, students are cast in in small and sometimes major roles. The introduction to stagecraft for students is accomplished in close cooperation between IMT teachers and the theater.
Collaborations enable young singers to perform at established festivals. Co-productions have been created with: Ludwigsburg Festival • Schwetzingen Festival • International Handel Festival Karlsruhe.
Networking with Opera Houses:
During the study course: students are hired for guest engagements in minor roles, which are credited as part of the individual study plan, in the opera repertoire exam and as public performances: Augsburg Theater • Darmstadt State Theater • Freiburg Theater • Heidelberg Theater • Karlsruhe State Theater • Mannheim National Theater, Pforzheim State Theater • Stuttgart State Opera.
Regular participation of students in national and international competitions (New Voices, Belvedere, and ARD, among others.)
There is a close cooperation with:
The Ring Award Graz, an international competition for directing and stage design; Siemens Opera Singing Competition in Ankara, Turkey, the winner of which receives a scholarship to the opera studio and, after passing the entrance exam, to the master of arts program in opera singing.
Funding through grants, master classes, and performance opportunities: Richard Wagner Association Karlsruhe • Richard Wagner Association Pforzheim • International Handel Academy • Lions Clubs Karlsruhe • Rotary Club Karlsruhe • Heinrich Hertz Society
