Piano for Lied Interpretation
At the University of Music Karlsruhe, lieder are seen as opportunities to refine and educate students technically, musically, and subjectively. The aim is to promote understanding of the text and setting by means of a wide-ranging, unique song focus, and clarify the tradition of lied interpretation by making different styles of German lied, French song, Italian or Provençal ballads, and English songs understandable. Lied is always understood as chamber music and always developed in a duo.
Students practice symbiotic voice and piano as a matter of course. They are particularly committed to dealing with individualities in the lied situation, finding a singular timbre and tone, and creating a middle ground between instrumental singing and clarifying language in order to express colors and rubato in the verbal context. This art is always an act of maintaining a balance among oneself, musical partner, and the work at hand.
Job-related seminars, including in law and contractual practice, proper applications, media practice and interview training, are required and complement the range of courses.
