Under the motto "Summer.Night.Dream", the first ensemble academy for singers took place at the Karlsruhe University of Music in July 2021. In joint rehearsals with professional singers from the Vocalsensemble Rastatt under the musical direction of Prof. Holger Speck, students of voice at the Hochschule were able to gain an insight into professional life in an opera or radio choir. The academy was complemented by specialist lectures by well-known representatives of the choral scene.
As a live performance of the final concert was not possible due to the Corona pandemic, a video production took place in the Wolfgang Rihm Form of the Karlsruhe University of Music in order to allow the public to participate in this great concert retrospectively. The programme included works by Schumann, Ralph Vaughan-Williams, Mendelssohn, Brahms and Schubert. In addition to the 30-member choir of students and vocal ensemble members, the wind ensemble of the Karlsruhe University of Music under the direction of Will Sanders, the pianist Lisa Golovenko and the speaker Birgit Quellmelz also participated. The video production was technically and editorially supervised by students of the 2nd semester Bachelor of the Institute for Music Journalism under the direction of Prof. Maximilian Richter.
